One of the key challenges in operating and supporting OpenStack based clouds is the availability of operational tools and platforms.

Currently, most of the efforts around diagnosing issues or ensuring the infrastructure is behaving as expected is manual and time consuming. This drives up the cost of maintaining and operating public or private clouds. Given the fact that OpenStack environments are frequently touched to implement new functions or upgrades, it’s very likely that problems will occur on frequent basis. Moreover, the availability and assurance are impacted because there is a lack of tools and platforms that drives consistency, compliance and assurance tracking.

We took on the challenge of solving this problem to provide a platform that provides the flexibility to set up and verify the various services in the cloud on an ongoing basis, setup assurance goals, and track critical key pair values across one or multiple deployments from a single pane of glass. Wanclouds Inc. introduced a platform called CHAI to address issues related to faster diagnosis, compliance, and assurance in OpenStack deployments. The platform can work with any community based OpenStack distributions and can be leveraged by individuals or teams.

The goal is to increase availability of the OpenStack deployments by providing both proactive checks as well as faster diagnosis of OpenStack related issues. We estimate 95% and higher productivity gain by implementing such mechanisms. In addition, we estimate significant cost savings by utilizing the CHAI platform. Tasks that required multiple hours and multiple experts can now be performed in seconds
